Susan in her studio, in the early stages of painting "Jeanne"

Originally from Juneau, Alaska, I loved drawing people since I was a child, and as a teen transitioned to oil painting. I moved to New York City after high school to study art at the Cooper Union, receiving my BFA in 1999. I continued on to graduate school at Columbia University, receiving my MFA in 2001. In 2003, I moved with my future husband, Chris Grau, to Miami, and during those years had a studio at the Bakehouse Art Complex and was represented by ArtSpace: Virginia Miller Galleries. In 2007, I had a solo exhibition at Galerie La Courette in France, and that year Chris and I also relocated to Upstate South Carolina. I exhibited regionally my first several years in SC, including a solo exhibition at ArtSpace in Raleigh, NC in 2011.
